Art P

Description: Development of skills in art technique and theory. Emphasis is on drawing, painting and printing, with exploration of more advanced media. Personal expression and knowledge of processes are stressed. History and appreciation of the ethnic art of major cultures are regular parts of the course.

Advanced Art P

UC, CSU
Prerequisites: Art 1 or teacher recommendation.
Description: Individual work in a studio atmosphere in painting, drawing, ceramics, design, sculpture, and printing with emphasis on personal growth. Students will work on developing a portfolio of their work. History and appreciation of art of major cultures parallels studio instruction.

Photography P

UC, CSU
Description: This one year course teaches the basics in making photographs and developing film and photographic prints. It includes techniques used in photo finishing and display. This class is taught as a blend between commercial and fine art photography. This course is designed for the serious student and while ownership of a 35mm camera is not required, students are encouraged to have one. Students may take this class a second year as advanced students and learn color photography.

Graphic Design P

UC, CSU
Description: Students will learn the process and techniques of digital graphic arts and photography and other forms of digital imaging and manipulation. Use of digital cameras, computers, scanners and other image input devices will also be included. Photoshop will be one of the main software programs used in this one-year course.

Yearbook Description: This class produces the Talisman yearbook and Odyssey video yearbook. Students will receive instruction in page design, graphic arts, desktop publishing, applied photography, videography, video editing, and group organization. Students are expected to learn to be versatile, able to do many different jobs. This is a class with a serious responsibility to the school that requires matching commitment from students.

Beginning/Intermediate Dance P

UC, CSU
Description: Exposes students to world dance forms including: West African, Afro-Brazilian. Hawaiian, Tahitian, North African/Middle Eastern, Afro-Caribbean, Chinese classical and folk, Mexican folkloric and Jazz techniques. Young men are also encouraged to enroll.
Uniform consists of black leotard and black leggings or sweat pants for girls and white tee shirt and black sweat pants for boys.

Advanced Dance P

UC, CSU
Prerequisites: One year of beg/intermediate dance or permission of instructor.
Description: Students must have a 2.50 GPA and good citizenship in order to be enrolled in this class which will consist of the Oakland Techniques Multicultural Touring Company. Students train to tour the community performing valuable lecture demonstrations. Strong leadership and teaching skills are recommended as students will be required to perform at many school and community locations and teach master classes to younger peers upon request. Students enrolled in this course will be expected to attend weekly after-school rehearsals and master classes given by valuable artists-in-residence.

Prerequisites : None Additional prerequisites for specific courses are listed with the course.
Description: Techniques of analyzing character, listening critically, and speaking effectively are developed. The emphasis is on individual and group activities in movement, voice, diction, projection of ideas and emotions, preparation of original and published scene work, and study and discussion of theater history.
